Uganda is situated in the eastern region of the continent of Africa with a total area of 241,038 sq km, surrounded by Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan and Tanzania.

Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy, employing over 80% of the work force. The principal cash crops are coffee, tea, cotton, tobacco, cut flowers, and sugarcane. It generates good export revenue through export of coffee, tea and other products. Uganda has substantial natural resources, including fertile soils, regular rainfall, and sizeable mineral deposits of copper and cobalt. The country has largely untapped reserves of both crude oil and natural gas. Large amount of poultry, cattle, goats and sheep are also raised. There is a prominent fishing industry and much hardwood (especially mahogany) is cut.

The Government of Uganda has used the stock market as an avenue for privatization. Uganda has great potential and is expected to boost its economy in the coming years. Expand your business reach in Uganda through online tenders with Africagateway.

The backbone of the Algerian economy is its energy sector which contributes to around 50% to the GDP and over 95% of its exports. The region is 14th largest in the world for Oil production and has always been known for the fertility of its soil. The agriculture sector contributed to around 8.3% to the GDP and employs around 13.4% of the labor force. An area of more than 30,000 sq km is used to produce cereal grains.
Algeria is the largest oat market in Africa. The other crops cultivated are cotton, tobacco and dwarf palm.

Oil & Gas

Oil and gas Tenders is of critical importance to the African economy. In fact, it is estimated that 57% of Africa’s export earnings are derived from hydrocarbons. Within the continent, North and West Africa is host to the most renowned producers; some of the countries in those regions are also among the most dependent on oil and gas revenues in the world. In recent years, East Africa has also emerged as an exciting prospect for international oil companies.

Telecommunication sector

Africa has been the fastest-growing mobile market in the world during the past five years which in turn presents great opportunities in the telecom sector.
Since the processes of liberalization and privatization have been taken into consideration by African countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, the Sudan, South Africa and Kenya, their telecommunication infrastructures have improved drastically. Many African governments have developed their telecommunication infrastructure by privatizing their former state-owned enterprises.

As a result, the telecom sector in Africa has opened up new vistas of business opportunities.

Algeria’s tourism industry contributes only about 1 percent of GDP and receives about 200,000 tourists and visitors annually. Ethnic Algerian French citizens represent the largest group of tourists, followed by Tunisians. Various hotel operators are planning to build hotels, particularly along the Mediterranean coast. Another potential opportunity involves adventure holidays in the south. The Algerian government along with other funding agencies has set the goal of boosting the number of foreign visitors, including tourists to 1.2 million in the coming years. Along with the investment of government for the boost, various online tenders are regularly floated in Algeria’s developing economy.

Africa is blessed with various natural resources that the continent enjoys in abundance. However, trade varies from one country to another. Countries such as South Africa experience high trade whereas regions such as Burundi have the least trade volumes.

Africa Trade: Exports

Botswana and South Africa are two biggest exporting countries in Africa. South Africa is the world’s biggest producer of gold & diamonds. The country has a well developed law system. South Africa has a large pool of skilled labour and advanced infrastructure and developed financial resources. All these factors are mostly missing from other countries. Advanced in the following streams, the African government along with various funding agencies has taken steps to maintain and bring in more business in South Africa through tenders.

The main exported commodities of African nations are:

Palm Oil

Gold

Diamonds

Oil

Cocoa

Timber

Precious metals.

Oil export has been the main stay for many economies. Nigeria is one of the world’s largest oil reserves and Africa’s largest oil producer. With its resources, Nigeria can produce 3.2 million barrels/day. However it only produces an average of 2.21 million barrels/day. You can expand your business reach in Nigeria through Africagateway with the help of regular online tenders floated and steps taken for improvement by the local government.

In the last two decades, countries such as Sudan, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea have also benefited due to their oil exports.

Africa Trade: Imports

Africa struggles with food items and basic facilities. It is often under the grip of internal outbreaks, leaving less scope for infrastructural or administrative change over. Therefore, African imports feature medical supplies as well as food items. Africa, in the next few years will be known as the food hub.

The main imported commodities are:

Machinery and equipment

Chemicals

Petroleum products

Scientific instruments

Foodstuffs

Machinery and equipments imports have become regular as the region is trying to uplift its productivity and make use of the vast resources.

However, the imports are limited to nations that have a decent level of consumption.

Overall, Africa trade has been helped enormously by other such as Germany, Japan and China that have not only invested a lot in the emerging countries but have been regular African trade partners as well. You can also expand your business reach in Africa with the help of Africagateway in not only Import and Export but in other emerging sectors too.

Mozambique is a country in South East Africa bordered by the Indian Ocean to the East, Tanzania to the North, Zimbabwe to the West and Swaziland and South Africa to the South West. It is separated from Madagascar by the Mozambique Channel to the East. The capital and largest city is Maputo.

Mozambique is said to be world’s fastest growing economies. The country’s economy is based largely on Agriculture, but mainly Food and Beverages, Chemical manufacturing, Aluminum and Petroleum industry is growing. The country’s Tourism sector is also growing. South Africa is Mozambique’s main trading partner and source of foreign direct investment.

Mineral Industry in Mozambique:

The mineral industry in Mozambique contributes a large amount to the world in regards with the production of Aluminum, Beryllium and Tantalum. It is the world’s largest exporter of coal and gas which will boost up the GDP.

The Energy boom will also benefit the country in other ways. A string of gas and coal-fired power plants are planned by the government. It seems likely that the country will gain at least 3 GW of thermal generating capacity within the next decade.

The government in longer terms states that tourism, agriculture and possibly manufacturing will be the basis of employment creation in Mozambique. Subsistence farming currently dominates the agriculture sector, so there is plenty of scope to develop more productive practices.

With the scope of agriculture and tourism development in Mozambique, the African government and other funding agencies are taking steps for the better improvements as mentioned above. Africagateway helps you with Procurement News, Trade Leads and Tenders Information to expand your business reach in Mozambique.

Egypt and the Economy:

Egypt falls in northern part of Africa and is said to be linking country with Middle East countries. It is considered playing an important role in exporting oil to many parts of Africa and other countries and also contributing foreign exchange. Apart from Oil, Egypt has strong base for textile, Ceramics and pharmaceutical products.

Egypt’s economy mainly depends on agriculture, tourism, petroleum exports and media. Petroleum and natural gas are also produced. The principal minerals include iron ore, phosphates, salt, manganese, limestone, gypsum, and gold.

Tourism in Egypt is one of the most important parts of Egypt’s economy. Egypt derives a great deal of its foreign exchange from tourism. At its peak in 2010 the sector employed about 12% of Egypt’s workforce serving approximately 14.7 million visitors Egypt, and providing revenues of nearly $12.5 billion as well as contributing more than 11% of GDP.

Agriculture is also a large part of the Egyptian economy. The Nile River provides Egypt with some of the most fertile land in the Middle East. It produces food for consumption and export as well as cotton for domestic and foreign textile production. Egypt’s other great resource is the Suez Canal. Roughly 7.5% of global sea trade transits the canal providing Egypt revenues in excess of $3 billion annually.

Having such a strong base of income from the established sectors of agriculture and tourism, the economy of Egypt has comparatively developed since the last few years. With the development of the economy, business opportunities are also growing.

With the help of TenderInfo, you stay updated to all the tenders related to agriculture and tourism sectors of Egypt, Africa.

Africagateway is an online portal which helps you stay connected to all the tenders’ information online. The growth of various countries and sectors in Africa are dependent on many funding agencies. They play a vital role for the development of Africa as a whole.

AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK ADB:

ADB is a financial institution comprising 53 African and 24 non-African countries which promotes economic and social progress in Africa through loans, equity investments and technical assistance. Structurally, the ADB Group includes the African Development Bank, the African Development Fund and the Nigeria Trust Fund. Established in 1964 and headquartered in Tunisia, the Bank has provided a cumulative $55 billion in loans and grants in the region.

The ADB has been praised for its role in the fight against HIV/AIDS on the African continent. The ADB emphasizes large infrastructure projects at the expense of smaller, cheaper options that may produce more energy with greater benefit to the continent’s poor.

WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION ( WTO ) :

The purpose of the WTO is to ensure that global trade commences smoothly, freely and predictably. The WTO creates and embodies the legal ground rules for global trade among member nations and thus offers a system for international commerce. WTO rules become a part of a country’s domestic legal system.

WTO from its side has taken various efforts for the development of the Continent, Africa. It has taken various steps in improving the performance of various sectors which directly reflect the growth of the country and the continent. The investment of WTO in Africa’s various projects has taken the country’s development to the next level.

INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND ( IMF) :

International Monetary Fund (IMF) is the most powerful international financial institution in the world. It is the major source of lending to African countries and uses the loans they provide as leverage to prescribe policies and dictate major changes in the economies of these countries.

The main task of the IMF is to maintain a dialogue with and among its member countries on the national and international implications of their economic and financial policies.

The second main role of the IMF is to provide loans of foreign exchange to countries experiencing balance-of-payments problems undertake the necessary adjustment and restore conditions for sustainable economic growth. The financial assistance provided by the IMF enables countries to rebuild their international reserves, stabilize their currencies, and continue paying for imports without having to impose trade restrictions or capital controls, or take other measures `destructive of international prosperity’.

Hence, the IMF’s goal is to provide global financial stability and to assist in the global war on poverty.

Water and sanitation are the most challenging industries for the African government. In South Africa, it is characterized by both achievements and challenges. The government made a strong commitment to high service standards & high levels of investment subsidies to achieve them. Since then, the country has made some progress with regard to improving access to water supply. Over past 2 decades the increase in access to safe drinking water has increased from 49% to 60%.

South Africa has a strong water industry with a track record in innovation. However, much less progress has been achieved on sanitation. Access increased only from 71% to 79% during the same period.

Two distinctive features of the South African water sector are- The policy of free basic water and the existence of water boards- bulk water supply agencies that operate pipelines and sell water from reservoirs to municipalities. In May 2014 it was announced that Durban’s Water and Sanitation Department won the Stockholm Industry Water Award “for its transformative and inclusive approach”, calling it “one of the most progressive utilities in the world ”. The city has connected 1.3 million additional people to piped water and provided 700,000 with access to toilets in 14 years. It also was South Africa’s first municipality to put free basic water for the poor into practice.

Water availability in South Africa varies greatly in space and time. While the West is dry with rainfall only during the summer and as low as 100mm, the East and South-east receive rainfall throughout the year with an average of up to 1,000 mm.

Groundwater is limited due to geologic conditions, but also is extensively utilized in the rural & more arid areas. The main rivers of South Africa are fairly small compared to the large rivers of the world. For example, the discharge of the Nile River alone is about six times higher than the available surface water resources from all South African rivers together.

African government, NGOs and many funding agencies has taken good initiatives to resolve water and sanitation issue in Africa. Online tenders related to Water & Sanitation are available in the following countries of Africa: Ethiopia, Malawi, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria and Mozambique.

This country has got good importance in last decade. Kenya’s economy has seen good growth and development due to government policies, government tenders and foreign direct investment.

Industries like agriculture, construction, real estate, small scale manufacturing companies, tourism, and IT sector has seen great growth in Kenya. Kenya is said to be next hub for IT and food industry in Africa.

Tourism: Kenya’s Tourism has exhibited steady growth in most years since independence, and hence it contributes to almost 61% to the GDP of its country. Tourists, the largest number being from Germany and the United Kingdom, are attracted mainly to the coastal beaches and the game reserves, notably, the expansive East and West Tsavo National Park. Tourism is now Kenya’s largest foreign exchange earning sector followed by flowers, tea, and coffee.

Agriculture: Agriculture is the second largest contributor to Kenya’s gross domestic product (GDP), after tourism. The principal cash crops are tea, horticultural produce, and coffee. These crops are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. Horticultural produce and tea are the main growth sectors and the two most valuable of all of Kenya’s exports. Government on regular basis is floating tenders online in Kenya related to agriculture and its products.

Kenya’s flower industry is rapidly growing.
