United Kingdom : HSBC announces first international RMB bond

Published 20 Apr 2012

HSBC Bank PLC announced on Thursday that it will issue an international RMB bond, the first of its kind to be launched outside Chinese sovereign territories.

The security also dovetailed into a new initiative by some leading banks, the British government and Bank of England, to develop London as an international \"hub\" for renminbi securities, HSBC said.

It is being launched in London and listed on the London Stock Exchange with the aim of tapping the growing pool of RMB liquidity across Europe.

\"The move represents another step in London\'s development as a premier international trading centre for the renminbi and is an early sign of the huge potential that this market represents,\" said Stuart Gulliver, Group Chief Executive of HSBC, in a press statement on Thursday.
